Starve.io Thermal Survival & Crafting Progression: Complete Winter Biome & Dragon Gear Guide

Master body temperature regulation, campfire heat math, wheat bread farming, workbench tier progression, and dragon gear crafting in Starve.io.

Starve.io is a punishing multiplayer survival sandbox running on HTML5 Canvas. Unlike casual IO games, Starve combines intense survival elements: your avatar must balance Cold (thermal levels), Hunger, Thirst, and Health while fending off wolves, spiders, dragons, and hostile players.

Surviving beyond the first night requires a disciplined crafting order and understanding the biome temperature curves.

1. The Core Survival Vitals

Your character model tracks four critical meters:

  1. Cold (Temperature): Drops rapidly during nighttime and inside the northern Winter Biome. Reaching 0 Cold freezes your avatar, dealing 5% HP damage per second. Countered by campfires, stone furnaces, and fur hats.
  2. Hunger: Depletes continuously. Consuming raw berries provides early relief; crafted bread and cooked meat provide long-lasting sustenance.
  3. Thirst: Drops while moving. Replenished by drinking at lakes or crafting water bottles.
  4. Health: Regulates total survivability. Regenerates slowly only when Hunger, Cold, and Thirst are above 75%.

2. Day 1 Speedrun Crafting Order

3. Conquering the Winter Biome & Dragon Gear

The frozen northern territory contains the game’s most lucrative resources: Amethyst and Dragon Caves.

  • Thermal Preparation: Never enter the snow biome without a Winter Fur Coat and at least 50 wood/stone for emergency stone fire pits.
  • Dragon Hunting: Dragons deal heavy fire damage. Build a protective 3x3 stone wall perimeter with a spike bottleneck to trap the dragon before attacking with Diamond/Amethyst spears.
